Restructuring an apartment
PARIS 17
The project consisted of the renovation and interior decoration of an apartment in a typically Parisian building in the trendy Clichy-Batignolles area of Paris.
The apartment’s original floorplan was not functional: The living area was cramped, and the separate kitchen, small bathroom and lack of storage was a problem. By eliminating a bedroom, the living area was expanded to a comfortable volume and exposure to natural light was maximized.
The bathroom and kitchen were centered around the core of the flat. The storage was custom designed to make use of all space efficiently. The kitchen that was moved to the living room, was designed as a bookshelf. Made entirely of body-dyed medium, it integrates itself perfectly into the volume of the room.
The sober decoration plays on the history of the apartment. The Prussian stove was refinished to show its original enamel and the hardwood floors and ceiling moldings were restored.
